new semester

New semester with new, longer lasting projects.
I think it might be fun, I like developing things a bit more over time and not stress around only having a week or two to do everything at the same time. I'm mainly looking forward to making characters, and try doing some backgrounds. Hoping I can play around with watercolors and learn how to use them. I always loved those storyboards and concept art things which are made with scribbly pencils and watercolors.

I hope they do what they said they'd try out; longer opening time at the studio. Sounding a bit weird coming from me who you hardly ever see in there, but I simply prefer to work in silence, which never seem to happen until it's past 6 - and everyone else have gone home for dinner. I'm hoping this will get me some more time to work in piece and quiet.

So until everyone else is having dinner I'll switch between going to lessons and reading the rest of House of many ways. Love those fantasy books. Already finished Castle in the sky and Howl's moving castle, which is the first book in the series and I will probably read again after finishing House of many ways. Nothing is like using a bit of your imagination to see pictures instead of words.

RR Storyboards

Finally finished both the storyboards and the anematic practice we had. So I'm uploading a couple of my favourite panels.

I like doing storyboads, I find that and aniematics rather fun and relaxing to do. I really enjoy it.

About pencils and 3D and such

It's first now I realize after spending a day trying out Maya without wanting to chuck the pc out the window in frustration of the program not working the way my mind would like it to, I never post my 3D on my blog.
I guess I'll have to play more around with it before it ever sees the light of day on the internet.
I will give it a chance, but I am very likely to run away and hide in my sketchbook after every time I touch the program, because I know it won't replace my love for doodles, messy pages and colors. <3

Flash Lipsync

Learned some simple lip sync in flash.
I also learned that if you don't have everything on separate layers the file is not going to work properly and you have to re-do your entire animation....

Edo art

We were told to pick a style to draw a background and some characters in, I picked the Japanese Edo style. We were going to draw a background, then later some characters.
Thing is...I don't do planning and someone else's style at the same time. So I got told off by one of the teachers.
But in all honesty, I don't work very well having a bunch of people around me. I like to choose the background noise and sound level on my own, and it's usually ending up with instrumental music for a reason. It doesn't disturb me much, and if it does, I can turn it off <3

[sorry for the quality of the pictures, but the school scanner brutally murders all my colors and pencil lines, and my web cam doesn't like lack of light...]

Storyboard

Storyboard assignment:
You are on one side of the street, you see something on the other side, an object blocks your view. When the object moves you see that the situation is not what you first thought.

Will see if I can update this thing later on after re-drawing it on my computer so that you can actually see what's going on. And probably add some color keys or something. I don't like it when scanners don't do my drawings any justice...

[EDIT]

I re-drew the storyboard so that you are actually able to see what is going on, and I tried doodling some color panels on the bottom, but I feel like the second one could have a stronger contrast in light and shadow on the old lady and the guy with the knife to make it more dramatic.

Cubey Animation

The task this week was drawing a cube person reacting to an object appearing next to it.
I chose to go with the ever classic falling flowerpot. Though...I'd love to have used a big piano, but that would have been a bit too time consuming for me at this point.
